The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is recognizing Pregnancy Help Appreciation Week, observed Nov. 9-13, with a statement from Bishop Daniel E. Thomas, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities.
About 2,750 pregnancy help centers operate across the United States. These organizations support pregnant and parenting women, babies and families during pregnancy and after childbirth.
Pregnancy help organizations include maternity homes, medical and resource centers, and adoption agencies. Many pregnancy care centers offer free medical services, including ultrasounds and prenatal and postnatal care. They also refer women to free or low-cost childbirth services.
Other assistance can include baby clothing, diapers, child care, career services and housing referrals.
“During Pregnancy Help Appreciation Week, we express our sincere gratitude for all those who work to provide necessary resources to women, babies, and families during pregnancy and beyond,” Thomas said.
Parish volunteers also assist vulnerable women and families through the Walking with Moms in Need initiative.
In Middle Tennessee, Mulier Care serves women experiencing crisis and unplanned pregnancies, particularly those with limited support networks. The organization provides resources and assistance to help women prepare to care for themselves and their children before and after giving birth. Information is available through muliercare.org.
