Catholics in Fundraising CIO announced a new series of free online seminars designed to help Catholics align their financial decisions with Church teaching. The program, titled “The Good Steward,” addresses philanthropy, investment strategies, and estate planning through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching.

Bridging the Gap Between Faith and Finance

The initiative responds to findings in the Catholic Generosity report, which identified a disconnect between official Church doctrine on wealth and the actual practices of many Catholics regarding giving and asset management. The report suggests this gap stems from insufficient formation and accessible guidance rather than a lack of charitable intent.

Catholic teaching emphasizes that individuals are stewards of God’s gifts, bearing responsibilities toward neighbors, the poor, and the common good. The new seminars aim to provide practical formation on how these principles apply to personal finance during one’s lifetime and through estate planning.

“Most Catholics have never had the opportunity to explore the depth of the Church’s teaching on wealth,” said John Green, Chairman of Catholics in Fundraising CIO.

Seminar Schedule and Structure

The three-part program treats philanthropy, faith-aligned investing, and legacy giving as interconnected expressions of Christian stewardship. Each session lasts one hour and is offered twice online to accommodate different schedules: once at 8:00 a.m. and again at 6:00 p.m.

The first session, “Catholic Philanthropy,” is scheduled for October 13, 2026. It will be led by John Green and Matt Parkes. The second installment, “Investment and Wealth Management,” takes place on December 9, 2026, featuring Tom Fitzgerald O’Connor and Fr. Keith McMillan SJ.

The final session, “Legacy Giving and Estate Planning,” is set for February 9, 2027. Leaders for this segment include Petra Gomersall and Suzanne Wheeler.

Formation Versus Financial Advice

Organizers clarified that the seminars are intended for spiritual formation and reflection, not as substitutes for professional financial, legal, or investment advice. Participation is free and open to anyone interested in integrating their faith with their economic life.
