Pope Leo XIV sent a formal message to participants as they concluded a week-long gathering commemorating the tenth anniversary of the apostolic exhortation Amoris laetitia. The meeting, which ran from October 7 through October 14, brought together clergy and lay leaders to reflect on the document’s impact on family ministry.
The Pontiff was unable to attend the sessions in person. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle presided over Mass on Wednesday morning on behalf of the Holy Father, leading the liturgical celebrations for the assembly.
Gratitude and Future Reflections
In his written address, Pope Leo XIV expressed appreciation for the dedication shown by those involved in organizing the event. He specifically thanked the Heads of Eastern Catholic Churches and the Presidents of Bishops’ Conferences for their time and preparatory work.
The Pope acknowledged the contributions of families who shared their personal experiences during the discussions. He noted their openness in discussing both the joys and struggles inherent in married life, as well as their hopes for the future.
“As you know, I have been unable to be among you during these days,” Pope Leo XIV wrote. “I will read the fruits of your work and discussions, and offer my reflections in due course.”
Call to Continued Evangelization
The Pontiff urged participants to disseminate the insights gained from the meeting within their respective dioceses and episcopal conferences. He emphasized the importance of continuing to proclaim the Gospel to families using Amoris laetitia as a guide.
Pope Leo XIV expressed his hope that families would remain active participants in the life and mission of local Churches. He invited attendees to assure their communities of his spiritual closeness despite his physical absence.
The message concluded with an Apostolic Blessing from the Holy See. The Pope asked for prayers as he continues to engage with the outcomes of this significant anniversary gathering.
